Daily Practice
Note: It is important to remember that children learn by repetition! Repeating the same name page or video is key for teaching preschoolers. We may get bored with it, but they love it and will learn from the repetition. These Daily Practice resources can even be extended for use all week long, not just school days!

▸ Activity #1 – Learning Letter Z
After you watch the Phonogram video, have your child write Zz and complete the Z search and Find Worksheet. When they trace the Zs, make sure they are holding their pencil properly (pinchy pinchy), they begin on the small black dot at the top, and trace right, down left, and back right (zig zag zig).
▸ Activity #2 – Part-Part-Whole Counting Worksheet
Print out the Part-Part-Whole Worksheet. This worksheet is getting the kids to see that two parts make a whole. Follow the directions on the worksheet.
▸ Activity #3 – Goldilocks
This month we are learning about fairytales. Tell your child that fairytales are made up stories that often have magic, talking animals, or make believe creatures (ie. fairies, trolls, unicorns). Together re-tell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears (if you have a book with this fairy tale, pull it out and read it together!) Then watch this fun reading of a spin-off version of the traditional Goldilocks story, Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs.

▸ Activity #1- Z Pictures
Print the “Z pictures” Page. On a different piece of paper (construction paper works great), make two columns. Label one side “Z Words” and the other “Z” With a 🚫sign – signifying non-z words. Have your child cut all the pictures, then paste the correct pictures in the corresponding column.
▸ Activity #2 –Addition Mat
▸ Activity #3 – Goldilocks
Print the “Goldilocks Size Comparison” page. Have your child cut out the pictures. While they are cutting, use another piece of paper (construction paper works great) folded into three sections. Label the first section “Baby Bear”, the middle section “Mama Bear” and the final section “Papa Bear”. Have your child paste each bears items in the corresponding section.

▸ Activity #1 – Phonics Worksheet
Take some time during the Phonogram Video to ensure your child is saying each phonogram with the teacher. Don’t underestimate the importance of repetition!
Print the “Initial Write in Animals” page. Talk about each picture, emphasizing the initial (first) sound. Ask: What sound do you hear at the beginning of that word? Then Ask: What letter says [the sound they just answered]? Have your child write the letter on the line to complete the word.
If you child is not yet able to write the letters, that’s ok. Print the second page of the PDF, and have them circle the letter! Then, you can either write that letter for them, or helping them, write it together.
▸ Activity #2- Addition Mat
Review yesterday’s lesson:
Using the addition mat and objects from your house, create sample problems for your child to solve, just like the video. Remember, our key words are, “How many do we have altogether?” and “How do I get that?” I count.
If your child has mastered this, use the “Number Cards” to make number sentences.
▸ Activity #3 – Goldilocks
Use your stuffed animals to set up a “theater” and retell the story of Goldilocks. Remember, it doesn’t HAVE to be bears! Get creative!
We’d love to see pictures or videos of your stories.
