Daily Practice
Note: It is important to remember that children learn by repetition! Repeating the same name page or video is key for teaching preschoolers. We may get bored with it, but they love it and will learn from the repetition. These Daily Practice resources can even be extended for use all week long, not just school days!

Print the page “Letter Search and Color”. Find the letters in your name and color them.
▸ Activity #2 – Using a Ten Frame to Find “One Less”
Print the page “Complete the Ten Frame”. Use small objects (cheerios, legos, blocks, raisins, or little pieces of paper) to fill in the ten frame to match the given number. Make sure to fill in the tens frame in order from left to right, beginning on the top and moving to the bottom row (again starting at the left and moving right).
For Example, the number 8 should look like this:
Then, on the bottom of the paper, have the children count the 10 frames and write the number (if they cannot write their numbers, that’s ok. Talk about what number each 10 frame shows and write the number for them, talking about what the number looks like).
▸ Activity #3 – The Three Billy Goats Gruff
If you were unable to make our Monday Zoom Book Reading, read or retell the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. What makes this story a Fairy Tale? Do you remember what things make a story a fairy tale? (a fairy tale has to contain just one of these things to be considered a fairy tale:
- It has magic.
- It contains magical creatures (like fairies).
- It has talking animals.

▸ Activity #1- Phonics Review
**NOTE: If your child is not ready to write letters yet (which is TOTALLY OK!), look at the second page of the “Initial Write In Animals” worksheet. Follow the same steps below, but have your child circle the correct letter instead of writing it.
Print the “Initial Write In Animals” worksheet. Say the name of the picture, (you may need to emphasize the first sound in the word). Ask the child, “What is the first sound you hear?” Discuss what letter makes that sound, what it is called, and what it looks like (you may need to write it for them on a white board or different paper).
Example:
What animal do you see? (answer: dog)
Dog! Right. /d/ /d/ /d/ dog.
What sound do you hear when I say /d/ /d/ /d/ dog? (answer: /d/ /d/ – they should not say the letter name, but the sound the letter makes)
What letter says /d/ /d/? (Answer: d)
What does a ‘d’ look like? How do we write a d? (Feel free to write the letter on a different paper (white board or chalk board) for them to see. Drawing specific attention to the way you are forming the letter.)
▸ Activity #2 – Using a Ten Frame to Show One More or One Less
Print out the “10 Frame” worksheet, and grab some small objects (cheerios, legos, or small pieces of paper) so your child can work along with the video!
*Note: Keep the 10 Frame paper – you will need it for tomorrow’s lesson!
▸ Activity #3 – Fairy Tales
*Don’t forget that we will be reading Sylvester and the Magic Pebble on Zoom at Noon*
Print and cut out the characters from “Three Billy Goats Gruff” worksheet. Use these to retell the story. You can create stick puppets or glue them to a piece of construction paper to create a scene!

▸ Activity #1 – Writing Letters
Practice Writing the letters M A T and D. Trace the letter on the left, and write the letter on your own on line right.
Challenge: Ask, “What words can you make with these letters?” Kids may need lots of help from you, parents.
Have them stretch each sound of the word.
Example:
/m/ /a/ /t/
What letter says /m/? – write the letter
What letter says /a/?- write the letter
What letter says /t/? – write the letter
▸ Activity #2- 10 Frame Game
Using the 10 Frame Mat again, fill the entire 10 Frame with your objects (cheerios, legos, pieces of paper).
Tell your child “We are going to play a game!” Have your child close his/her eyes, “no peeking”! Take a few items off the 10 Frame. (When you take the items off, take them off beginning at the bottom row, starting on the right and moving to the left – the opposite direction we used to fill it).
Ask “How many did I take away?” “How many are left over?”
Repeat this game as many times as your child will let you. Make it fun! Maybe they get to eat the items you take away!?
▸ Activity #3 – The Breman Town Musicians
This fairy tale was illustrated by Ms. Heidi’s son, Harrison, when he was in Kindergarten. Illustrated means created the drawings for the story.
Take your favorite fairy tale and create an illustration for the story! We’d love to see what you created! Post on Bloomz, or text it to us!
